Core Values: Who We Are
An Invitation

At New Life Baptist we believe that God can take any man or woman from any race, any creed, or any age and give to their lives new direction, purpose and meaning.  All of us need God in our lives to find satisfaction and contentment in the day-to-day – a God whose love is abundant, absolute and accessible.

Our building is the perfect example.  It was once as old silk mill with all the scars to prove it; just look at the floors and they tell the story.  Yet when we saw the building, we didn’t see its past or present condition, only its future.  We didn’t judge it by the scratches on the floor, the pipes on the ceiling, or the small bathrooms.  Instead, we saw a place where we could gather to celebrate God’s love and share it with those living in the city of Scranton.  God sees you in the same exact way.  He sees what your future can be not what your past was.  He is not consumed by the scars you carry or the holes in your soul, because he sees the person you can become because of His presence and work in your life through Jesus Christ.  A better husband, a better wife, a better parent, a better neighbor; a person with a life to give where pain is replaced by patience, bitterness by joy and uncertainty with a decisive direction.

We are here for one reason and one reason alone, to communicate God and His love.  That’s why we preach culturally current messages that can make God’s ways not only understandable, but real for your every day life.  That’s why we gather to join our voices together as we pursue a relationship with God based on knowledge through our weekly worship.  That’s why you’ll notice some excited and committed young people willing to teach your children and teens.  And that’s why we are eager to become active in the city of Scranton as God weaves the fabric of our lives together in community as we share a common pursuit of living our lives to their fullest as we live for God.

Yet there isn’t a person here today that doesn’t need help in these pursuits; we all do.  Making God real in the every day isn’t easy and it isn’t automatic.  Walking every day in faith, knowing and believing your steps are right doesn’t happen over night.  And just like the building isn’t all we envision today, neither are our lives.  And that’s O.K.  We understand all these things take time and like God; we want to be both loving and patient with where you are today, as he is patient with us.  We invite you to join us in our journey as we together encourage each other to be better people, not because we have all the right answers, but because we know the right God – who does have the answer: Jesus Christ.

We need God, and He wants you to complete the work He has started and continues to do.  We hope you’ll join us as we join with God.
